So yesterday I had a plan for my day in London but the plan went out of the window 😂🤣😂
Started at Victoria station, jumped on the bus to exhibition road (top end) never been here before. Found 2 lovely statues. One of Livingston and the other of Shackleton.
As I had time I decided to walk round the corner of the building to see if there was another. There wasn’t, but I did find out that there was a free Shackleton exhibition!!!!
First I had to get to the serpentine gallery for 14.00 to do the alienarium exhibition. (the reason why my plans had gone out of the window, only found out about it on Wednesday at work) I
still had plenty time so I walked to the royal Albert hall and Albert memorial. It was lovely to see the Albert hall without any scaffolding!!! And the memorial looked as stunning as always.
Made it to the serpentine gallery and the alienarium exhibition by Dominique Gonzales-foerster.
It was free!!!
There was one big round room that was absolutely stunning covered in people, aliens, planets......and that was about.... it except for the VR experience. I have never done VR, and I doubt that I will do it again simply because my eyes are rubbish!!! in order for my glasses too work for distance, the right lense in my glasses dose not work up close!!!! Which in every day life isn’t a problem. In the VR world it makes everything slightly out of focus!!!! And I couldn’t see anything without my glasses on.
Still it was definitely an interesting experience being an alien made up of a string of lights travelling through space!!
Definitely different.
Next it was back to the royal geographical society for the Shackleton exhibition.
What an amazing man.
I knew the basics of Shackleton but this exhibition took me from the beginning to the end of his life to the end.
The pictures were amazing and there were the original plate’s on display too. A fantastic experience, I’m so pleased I found it.
Now I officially had nothing planned, so I decided to walk through Hyde park to Hyde Park Corner via the serpentine.
What a beautiful day, 20 degrees with a cool breeze (I need to pack my factor 50 for next time!!) saw baby geese, a swan turning its eggs, coots, mallards didn’t find a single squirrel which I found odd, until I found the dell. No humans allowed in and there were 6 squirrels all running climbing and playing.
Walked through the rose garden, It was a bit bit early for the roses but still beautiful and the two fountains were lovely.
Made it to Hyde Park Corner station and the tunnel to it is full of beautiful pictures showing life at Hyde Park at different times.
Eventually made it on the tube and went to Warren Street. I had to go to Lidl today otherwise I would loose my free £2 voucher!!!! Popped in and got a banana, southern style chicken bites and a cheese pasta salad for £2.11 which meant I paid 11p, can’t be bad.
Next stop was McDonald’s for a pee and a coffee (they are now cheaper than pret!!)
I then took the train to embankment found a bench on the Thames, ate dinner/lunch and watched the world go by.
Fed and refuelled and with time to spare I went to the embankment gardens, I’ve been before but never in spring. Whow!!! The flowers were stunning and the smell was amazing. So I sat down and watched the world go by again.
I then remembered that the sewage gas light was around here somewhere. A quick Google search and turns out it was 120 yards away!!! In other words round the corner!!!! So off I went and found it 😄😄 after, I just wondered around.
Found some beautiful statues on the side of the Adelphi hotel. Found the walkway from one side of charring cross hotel to the other, and a plaque about a fallen tree. I also Found Ben Franklins house and Heinrich Hines house (he’s a German poet???)
Finally it was time to see zorro at the Charing Cross theatre. My seat was D5 ticket was £25 reduced from £49.
OMG!!!!! It was absolutely fantastic, it’s not very often that I see something that I desperately want to see again!!!!! Singing, dancing, laughing, sword fighting, fire!!!!! Absolutely amazing.
Considering this was a last minute whim of mine I am so pleased I went!!! (Even though I’m running out of fun money!!) The theatre is so small and intimate, I had to walk across the stage to get to my seat!!! Highly recommend zorro a fantastic show and only on till the end of may!!!!
Getting home for once was easy!!!! I was a bit worried as the national rail web site made it look like my train was going to be a bus again!!! Made a mad dash, to Victoria, no wine but I had my banana, chicken bites and a bottle of water left over from lunch/dinner. Made the 22.45(trust me that’s impressive 😂🤣😂) made it home at 12.20
Walked 7 miles.
I love London, I had a really relaxing and amazing day.
