I made a huge mistake I booked a theatre ticket on a bank holiday in the school holidays!!! I had no clue it was Easter week when I booked the play.
I knew London would be busy!!!! and on top of that I did not sleep last night!!!
The joys of being a night worker.
Still made it to London via London Bridge by 14.00, couldn’t go in via Victoria they are doing works on the line but it worked out well for me.
Decided to get away from the tourist areas, can't think why😂🤣😂
Got the 141 bus and headed to the shepherdess mosaic, all good, until I worked out that the bus was on a huge divert!!! and I had no idea where it was going!!!
Decided to play it safe and got off the bus at Hoxton underground and walked.
Found the Hoxton monster shop, knew it was going to be closed but still fun to find.
Then the walking began, I don’t know what was wrong with google maps but it kept saying 9min to destination when I had already walked for 9mins!!!
Anyway finally found the entrance to shepherdess mosaic and went through the alley.....
Only to come out on the park!!!
You can just walk across the park but it’s more fun finding the alley.
Found the shepherdess mosaic it was beautiful.
Next I decided to walk along the canal to Shoreditch park, where I found Alfred Hitchcocks head and real.
Definitely different.
I then got back on the 141 bus and headed back, was going to get off at the stop after Liverpool Street station but due to road works it turned out the next stop was the monument!!!
So crossed the road and got a bus half way back and found strange eggs, nests in a tree???
Also found some lovely statues I had spotted from the bus in the way up the road the first time!!!
Realising how close I was to the gherkin, so decided to go take a look around, found all sorts, including the boat on the corner of the building (been in my to find list for a while)and an old warehouse.
It was then that I decided that I didn’t want to walk the way I knew and decided to just walk kinda south to see what I could find!!! Worst case scenario I would find nothing and end up somewhere besides the Thames!!!
Found the Aldgate water pump that did not pump out water!! Found a beautiful building and some very big colourful flowers??
I then saw a bench, it looked familiar and then I twigged it was my holiday bench 😀😀😀 this was the bench I sat on to watch the world go by round the corner from my hotel. So I sat and watched the world go by 😂🤣😂
Decided I was hungry so jumped on the bus to Charing Cross and met a lovely German couple.
We got chatting.
The bus terminated at Aldwych (not the plan) and we decided to walk together to Charing Cross, I showed them the sewer lamp on the way and told them a few things to look out for as they made there way to Big Ben and the London eye.
We said our goodbyes at Charing Cross and I had McDonald’s for dinner £2.49 for a quarter cheese and medium fries via a voucher on the app.
Next I jumped on the underground to Mansion House found the labyrinth on the other platform and then decided to walked over the millennium bridge. OMG so many people!!!! Wrong decision!!!! Should of gone over Southwark Bridge!!!!
Saw the chewing gum artist again and as soon as I could I got away from the crowds and took the back streets!!!
So much better and peaceful.
So glad I wasn’t doing the normal tourist stuff far to busy!!!
Found the theatre and the most colourful but uncomfortable seat!!! I sat and watched the world go by before going into the theatre where I grabbed a coffee £2.
Finally it was time to watch Marjorie Prime. Seat A16 front row I paid £15 reduced from £48!!!and it had Anne Reid in it!!!!
One of my favourite actresses!!!
Play was 85 mins long with no interval
It was a fantastic play, with interesting characters and dialogue all about mourning the loss of a family member and then having a prime robot replace then and how the loved one has to teach the prime that looks like there loved one, all the loved one’s characteristics.
Definitely interesting.
When do you let go???
After the play I headed to Tesco and accidentally found the two swan mural under a bridge (another thing on my to find list!!!)
Grabbed a reduced ham, egg and coleslaw salad and a cucumber (they didn’t have as many reduced as last time!!) and a bottle of red wine.
Got lucky, made it to London Bridge station just in time for the 21.17!!!! I’ll be home by 23.00!!! Very early for me
Currently at Gatwick
Walked 8 miles in the beautiful sunshine it was a glorious day!!!
